Stabilized Platan Wood

Raffir stabilized platan wood is a strong choice for handles and inlays. We cut platan wood in two different directions: XC and YC. It has fine contrast lines in the XC direction. Meanwhile, it has a unique and very different snakeskin texture in the YC direction. Both of these cutting directions reveals wonderful grain patterns. The stabilization process also gives extra contrast to the grain pattern. Therefore, platan wood and dyed stabilization is a perfect match. All of our platan wood is forested in Europe under high quality standards.

Variations and properties

Stabilized platan has the unique grain structure of the raw wood. Meanwhile, it obtains mechanical advantages from the strong resin compound. Stabilization also gives the wood an extra 3D depth. This effect is very clear after polishing. We stabilize it in five colors: black, blue, purple, red and green. Raffir stabilized wood has high durability. It also obtains a high gloss finish after polishing. It absorbs very little water and has low swelling and shrinkage at different humidities. The material has a smooth surface and needs no other finishing than fine sanding and polishing.
